Things (24.08.2026)

Yesterday I finished reading George Bataille's Literature and Evil. A comforting yet tragic book, I think. Everywhere is Bataille's attempt to reconcile his fascination for Evil with his own political values, his wish for Good. In the end, I think, he is unable to answer, just as all of us are. But there is something I cannot help but love in seeing this struggle I myself relate to so much.

For a while I was very... I am not sure how to describe it. I needed to read for the purpose of my philosophy thesis, but horrible anxiety kept me from doing so, from even looking at the books I needed to read, and guilt kept me from doing anything I liked instead, so I simply devoted my time to doomscrolling. Very bad. Having started and quickly finished Literature and Evil (which I read over the span of two days) seems to have done much for me. I love it, it is the first time I have a real starting point from which to write from, I have finished reading the major works I need to read for now... there is still much writing to do, but I have finally managed to make a real start. Having been watching movies and playing games again.

Old fifties horrors. Watched The Fly on Saturday, The Tingler last night. "Wasting" time in such a way is good. Playing games as well. Returned to MGS1 today, although I only played through a little. Also started RE3, but I think it may be best to replay SH2... I don't know. I have a lot I want to play, which is nice, but it also makes choosing harder. And I want to watch another movie tonight after playing more. But what?
